Yoga Ettiquete & Student Code of Conduct
Welcome to Yoga Shala of San Antonio! Just a few reminders before your first class:
- Be on time, please arrive at least 15 mins prior to your first class otherwise 5-10 mins. is sufficient. This will give you time to take care of any payments, get ready and settle in.
- Be comfortable, wear appropriate yoga clothes that let you move freely; no shoes.
- Leave phones (on silent), shoes and bags outside the room on the shelves and baskets provided.
- Bring only your mat and towel inside the yoga room (only drink water before or after class)
- Drink water one hour prior to practice and refrain from eating 2 hrs before.
- Personal hygiene is an integral part of practicing yoga. Please ensure that you and your gear are clean and refrain form using heavy perfumes. A quick shower before class is recommended as well as a natural deodorant. Antiperspirant is not necessary as sweat is a natural product of the practice. Please make sure to wash your yoga clothes between uses and to clean your yoga mat regularly.
- Please try to keep voices low and observe silence in the yoga room.
- Be patient, start where you are, use what you have and do what you can.
- Limit your postures to poses and techniques that are being guided by your instructors. Listen to your body and do not hesitate to go into a resting pose should you require to do so.
- Please inform your instructor during class about current health issues or injuries.
- Please speak and listen mindfully to your instructors and fellow students.
- Treat everyone with respect, care, compassion and non-judgmentally.
- Students are requested to maintain healthy boundaries with our studio, including our instructors and students at all times. A student must not engage in any verbal or physical behavior of a demeaning, harassing or abusive nature in any professional context. Any form of harassment will not be tolerated and student may be barred from the studio should the behavior persist.
- Students should not contact the studio or our instructors through email or social media regarding any serious personal issues or histories (e.g., mental health/illness) unrelated to their yoga or meditation practice at our studio. Should students require additional support regarding their mental health needs, we recommend that you contact your family physician or appropriate health care provider.
- Be open, have fun and above all practice each class mindfully and with intent.
- Please give your body time to absorb the benefits of the practice, relax and recover, stay for savasana (final relaxation)
